Ganesh Acharya, MD, PhD, FRCOG
Ganesh Acharya is the 12th Chief Editor of Acta Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica (AOGS). He was appointed to this position on 1 January 2015. He has previously served as an Associate Editor of AOGS and Scientific Editor of BJOG - An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He was born in Nepal and has lived in Norway since 2001. He has trained and worked in several different countries including Nepal, Ukraine, Germany, UK, USA, Norway and Sweden.
General Information: Ganesh Acharya is currently employed as a Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention and Technology (CLINTEC) at the Karolinska Institute and as a Senior Consultant Physician at the Centre for Fetal Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. He also holds a professorship at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Health Sciences, UiT-The Arctic University of Norway.
He obtained MD from Lviv State Medical Institute, Ukraine and a postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynecology from Nepal. He completed his specialist training in Obstetrics & Gynecology in England and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. He has an MSc in Medical Imaging (Ultrasound) from the University of Hertfordshire, UK, a PhD from the University of Tromsø, Norway, and a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Perinatal Cardiology from the University of South Florida, USA.
Current activities: Ganesh Acharya is active both as a researcher and clinician. His main areas of interest are: maternal and fetal cardiovascular physiology, ultrasound imaging and echocardiography, prenatal diagnosis and treatment, placental biology, high-risk pregnancy, perinatal epidemiology and global maternal health. He is actively involved in clinical as well as basic translational research.
