Annika Auranen, MD, PhD

Annika Auranen works currently as the Head of Gynecologic Oncology in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tampere University Hospital, Finland. She graduated with MD degree in 1987, received her board certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1999 and in Gynecological Oncology in 2004 from the University of Turku, Finland. She got her PhD degree in 1997 from Turku University, and the topic of her PhD research was familial ovarian cancer in Finland. Her post-doctoral year she spent in 2000-2001 in the University of Cambridge under professor Bruce Ponders supervision studying low-penetrance ovarian and breast cancer susceptibility genes.
She is active in the Nordic Society of Gynecological Oncology (NSGO), and is currently (2016) the President-Elect of NSGO. She represents NSGO in the ENGOT (European network of Gynecological Oncological trials) Translational research group and in GCIG (Gynecological Cancer Intergroup). Since 2015, she is also President of the Finnish Menopause Society.
