Key papers in Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology on: The evolution of ultrasound in urogynecology
Our Journal, ‘Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology’(UOG), has been instrumental in popularizing the diagnostic modality of pelvic floor ultrasound in urogynecology. This article cites 26 of the most influential papers in urogynecological ultrasound since 1986, including a selection of 20 papers from the pagesof UOG between 1992 and 2008 which comprise a Virtual Issue that can be accessed online through the Journal’s website. The selection contains some of the most frequently quoted original papers that we have published and several review articles that have helped to establish the diagnostic method of pelvic floor (or translabial/perineal) ultrasound. For historical reasons I have also included the very first urogynecological ultrasound papers printed in the ‘White Journal’, even though they are rarely quoted today. Stuart Campbell, the Founding Editor of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, was largely responsible for promoting many of those first tentative steps in a field without precedents, without rules and without sympathetic reviewers, and many of us owe him an incalculable debt of gratitude. It is only fitting that this volume should be dedicated to him.
